MSP Registered Consultant Assessments

Introduction

This section describes the procedures used by APMG to assess carefully selected individuals as competent to provide a highly professional level of service in the product as an internal and/or external management consultant to their clients.

Standard

The certification of Registered Consultants is conducted in accordance with ISO 17024 and to APMG/MSP/Consultant standard.

Application

Application for consultant assessment normally accompanies the application for ACO certification by a consulting organisation. However, if an existing ACO applies for accreditation of a new consultant, the appropriate APMG Form should be used.

Application Review

On receipt of a completed application form and consultant CV(s), APMG staff will check the following: -

  • The application form has been signed and fully completed
  • Correct fees have been received
  • The applicant's CV demonstrates a clear potential to achieve the required standards of Registration
  • Eligibility criteria have been met
  • The applicant has completed and returned a Self-assessment Form
  • Referee details have been provided.

Referees

Applicant consultants should submit the contact details of four referees whom they agree APMG can contact. At least two of the referees should be clients whom the applicant has worked for directly, with the remaining two others consisting of a peer and a manager.

Referee's Judgement of Applicant

On receipt of the RC application form, the ACO Coordinator will send to each referee a copy of the 360 degree assessment documentation.

The Interview

The Assessment Team will interview the applicant for a minimum of one hour.  The Team will assess the applicant's competence in management consultancy practices and the product against the APMG interview standards.

Post Assessment

In making a decision on certification, APMG will consider the recommendations of the Assessment Team and any other information relevant to the certification process. If necessary, the MD will consult with the APMG Management Board. APMG will notify the applicant consultant, the relevant ACO, Assessment Team Leader and the Examination Board of the certification decision.

Certification

Following successful assessment the candidate will be registered with their ACO as a Registered Consultant.  The certificate awarded has a validity of 3 years but APMG reserves the right to request annual details from Registered Consultants as part of our surveillance activities.
