PPM Certificate Qualification

The Certificate syllabus consists of four units taken from the Diploma syllabus. There are two mandatory units, plus two further units of your choice (with the exception of Diploma Unit 12, which is not available for Certificate). You must pass all four units to achieve the certification.

Compulsory Core Units

  • DPM02 – Principles of Programme and Project Management
  • DPM08 - Programme Initiation or DPM10 - Project Initiation

Elective Units

  • DPM01 – Business Context
  • DPM03 – Risk Management
  • DPM04 - Quality Management
  • DPM05 - Change and Configuration Management
  • DPM06 - Managing People
  • DPM07 - Managing Contracts
  • DPM09 - Programme Monitoring and Control
  • DPM11 - Project Monitoring and Control

In addition to experience, prior learning is also recognised within the Certificate and exemptions can be granted for either a full unit or learning to a unit. Find out more about exemptions.

The Certificate aims to be directly applicable to your workplace, and so quickly improve your capability and effectiveness. Candidates are assessed against the explicit learning outcomes in the syllabus, with the emphasis on an intelligent application of appropriate tools and approaches, supported by a broader understanding of other techniques.

The assessment process is designed around your own programme or project. If you are not working on a programme or project at the time of the assessment, or are working within a classified industry, a centrally available case study will be made available by your training provider.

Units DPM01–DPM05 and DPM07–DPM11

These units are assessed using assignments, marked by the training provider. Candidates should apply theoretical knowledge from the subject area and provide examples from their current work situation. A different assignment must be submitted for each unit.

Candidates can submit an assignment up to three times (with amendments based on tutor feedback). If the assignment does not pass after the third submission, the unit must be re-taken and a new assignment assessed.

Submitted assignments will be checked at random by both the APM Group and CMI.

Unit DPM06

This unit on Managing People is assessed using an assignment, which is set and marked by CMI, rather than the training provider.

The assignment is designed to prove candidates' understanding of theoretical information by applying it to their work situations.

Exemptions for prior assessed learning will not be granted for this unit.
