About the PPM Certificate & Diploma

The Diploma in Programme and Project Management (PPM Diploma) is a qualification for any individual serious about developing their ability as a Programme and Project Manager. It is based on extensive research into existing bodies of knowledge on programme and project management and other qualifications.

Why study the Diploma?

The PPM Diploma has been designed and developed for Project and Programme Managers. It concentrates on developing a clear understanding of the disciplines and techniques which underpin successful Programme and Project Management. The Diploma also focusses on their practical application, ideally in your own workplace, and provides a foundation for your Continuing Professional and Personal Development.

Following completion of the Diploma, you could go on to become a Chartered Manager.

What Level is the PPM Diploma?

The Diploma in Programme and Project Management is considered to be a Level 5 Qualification within the Chartered Management Institute portfolio. This equates to a qualification requiring the same level of academic understanding as a Degree.

The Diploma is not part of the National Qualifications Framework, but it has been designed to meet all requirements at Level 5.

Exemptions are available for some core units of the PPM Diploma.

What is the PPM Certificate?

The Certificate in Programme and Project Management (PPM Certificate) is an intermediate level, practical qualification created as a stepping-stone to the PPM Diploma. The Certificate is pitched by the CMI as equivalent to a Level 5 qualification against the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

CMI and the APM Group launched the Certificate in 2007. It uses the same syllabus as the Diploma.

The Certificate concentrates on developing a clear understanding of the disciplines and techniques which underpin successful Programme and Project Management. It satisfies the needs of candidates who may not be ready to commit to the Diploma, and enables successful candidates to progress with the Diploma on completion of the Certificate.

The Certificate is ideal for Programme or Project Managers who are interested in expanding and extending their knowledge and skills in programme and project management. It allows you to embrace a number of PPM techniques, gaining a unique qualification within your specific management discipline.

It is also perfect for anyone who would like a taster of the PPM Diploma, but is unable to commit to it at this stage.

It is expected that candidates will already be working in a programme or project management environment, although the qualification is open to anyone wishing to build on their general management skills.
